Rumswinger, Cape Town’s fountainhead collective of progressive Nu Wave Electro Pop.
Rumswinger is a vigorously charismatic electro swing / nu wave pop outfit dripping with talented individuals who combine in a carnivalesque expression of deep electro beats layered with laser sharp synth textures, poppy licks and a rich & bristling horn section. The diversity of their musical backgrounds merge to create a unique style and character that is unforgettably infectious.
Their unique blend of skills and influences creates a powerful presence and signature sound that is both musically intelligent and charged with their accessible and totally addictive energy.
Rumswinger’s energetic brand of live electro swing has fired up the stages of Rocking the Daisies, Electro Swing Revolution in Berlin, Resonance, J&B Met, Flamjangle Tea Party, Cape Town Music Festival, Five for Change, Gin & Tonic Fest CT, Wacky Wine, Craft Beer Fest and some of South Africas hottest clubs. They've also in the last 3 years hit stages abroad like Amsterdam, Berlin, Tokyo-Japan, Philippines, Bali, Vietnam, Thailand, Seychelles and Namibia.
Fronting up is the entrancing & energetic Carla on vocals. Her powerful voice, her magnetic beauty and dynamic stage presence are all exquisite punches to the senses. Carla grew up on the stage and has been singing for as long as she’s been walking. She is a born performer and is as comfortable singing jazz as she is belting out rock and blues. Carla made it through to the top 10 of idols SA.
Then we have Marne, our beats monkey, some say he was raised on a diet of bananas & Ginseng root and that he sleeps in furry underwear. All we know is he punches out those big & bruising backbeats that drive the magic and the madness that is Rumswinger. Marne is a multi-instrumentalist whose other collaborations include his own band We Set Sail and quirky country-rock-blues band Peachy Keen. He is also known as the King of Swing DJ “King Louie”.
On saxophones is the debonnaire Simon, a thoroughly pedigreed jazzman, blooded early on the stages of New York, Den Hague and Amsterdam with the National Youth Jazz Band and currently a core member of The Rudimentals, whose unique sound has seen their last two singles top the charts at #1 and #2 on 5FM.
Completing the line-up on trumpet is the legendary jazz brassman himself, Lee Lips. One of South Africa’s most prominent session and stage musicians, Lee Lips was a founding member of SA Punk pioneers Hog Hoggidy Hog and has performed regularly with Goldfish, Springbok Nude Girls, Goodluck, We Set Sail, Kevin Naidoo, Valve State, Grassy Spark, Fuzigish, Toya Delazy and many more.
